WHAT’S GOING ON?

#129  May  2005

ALONG THE WAY:

Spirit is our partner.  I, the awareness, gets to live with it, experience it, watch it, work with it, constantly.

THIS MONTH’S THOUGHT:

Life is not fair.  Get used to it!

CREATIVITY:

(School Talk #3 by Dr. Bob Gibson continued)

Okay, I’ll quit talking for a little bit.  Let’s have questions.

(Question:  All these feelings that are coming out definitely there for a purpose?)

Answer:  You better believe it.  And instead of trying to see how fast you can run from them and push away or take a pill and make them disappear or get you unconscious of it.  The point is, yes, that’s there.  And those need to be out.  And if you shove them away, you’re not doing yourself a favor.  Let them be there and see what all they have to say.  You neither condemn them nor justify them.  But you can, by letting them out, being aware how they do. Intellectually you can take charge of them and use them the way you want to.  They make fantastic servants.  Otherwise, they are very much tormentors.  So that’s how the intellect gets control.  It takes charge of them.  But you have to be free to look at them.  As long as the intellect is fighting them or trying to make them go away or judging them as bad or having to justify them, nothing happens, you see.  It’s when you can say, “That’s me too, over there.  That’s part of me.  That’s an aspect of me.  Let’s get it all together and integrate it instead of having it in a conflict.”  You see, basically, the intellect is in heavy conflict with all that stuff, Bonnie.  Stay up all night fighting with it, all week fighting with it, all year fighting with it.  So conflict is the problem.  But the problem we make out of it is that we will not be free to experience that conflict long enough for it to be absorbed and made over.  And that’s called creating a soul.  That’s in the books.  I didn’t say that.  Sounds good.  That’s almost like that dark night of the soul stuff.  Good poetic stuff.  Let’s say it’s integration.  Being one.  Whole and complete.  One person instead of two or three people running around inside this skin we got here.  There’s too many in there.  There’s more than one.  But it’s there now so let’s let it go out until such time as we can be totally aware of it.  But as long as you’re fighting it there’s no chance to integrate it.  Now to be free to is the very antithesis of what mostly we do all of our lives.  We’re trying to be free from something.  We’re trying to get it gone.  We take tons of pills.  I read the other day of how many tons of Valium is sold every year in this country.  And it was in the millions of tons.  Now every ounce of that stuff of these millions of tons is used to prevent the integration from taking place.  Trying to be free from something instead of being free to.  In other words the whole market for Valium could be destroyed if everybody could get it in their head to be free to experience whatever may arise in your way today.  The whole market for Valium would be over with.  That would be a financial catastrophe for this country.  I am free to experience whatever may arise in my way today.  If it’s a feeling of anxiety.  Fine.  I’ll experience it freely.  If it’s guilt, I’ll experience it freely.  If it’s physical pain, experience it freely.   You’re not going to run it off by bitching at it.  I’ll assure you that.  If it is staying awake all night.  Well, I’ll experience it freely.  I don’t have to jump up and down and have a fit and take a ton of pills in order to knock myself unconscious.  I’m free to experience it.  Now saying I’m free to is truly a freedom.  Now to try to be free from something is no freedom at all because even if it’s gone this minute, damn thing might come back, so I’m still in a turmoil over it.  So the only approach is to be free to.  Now that takes guts.  Free to experience something that may be to you unpleasant at the moment.  But who guaranteed us that everything would be pleasant in this world.  I don’t remember getting a warranty to that effect when I arrived.  But we can be conscious and we can be one person floating around here.  And the only technique I can lay for you is “I am free to experience this”.  I will also tell you that if you’re fighting it, trying to be free from it, no matter what method you may be using.  I’ve seen people use drugs.  I’ve seen them use distractions.  I’ve seen them use religion.  I’ve seen them use a jillion other things.  Nothing is going to do it except you’re free to experience it.  Now being free to, you’re totally free.  But if you’re trying to be free from something, you’re just running.  Cause even if it’s gone this minute, it might be back.  And I’ll guarantee you, it probably will be and many times over.  So the more we try to be free from something the more we are involved with it.  And as soon as we’re free to experience it, no matter what it is, it’s beginning to take shape and pretty soon it is integrated into an intellect that has much broader, more complete and has far, far more capability and talents and attributes to it than it did when it was trying to fight.  Conflict is a very disintegrating thing.  In fact conflict is the only disintegrating factor.  That’s what keeps you pulled apart.  And absence of conflict, you are integrated.  Without conflict you are one.  So the way to start to be non-conflict is to be free to experience whatever may arise today.

THE NATURE OF SCRIPTS

– by Dr. Bob Gibson

A frequent question asked is, “What is meant by having a script?” A script is merely the essentials in acting out a consciously chosen role.

The first step is to see that one unconsciously is trying to achieve the Four Dual Basic Urges because one feels entitled to them.  As one can never have the Four Dual Basic Urges realized more than a very short time now and then, one feels victimized and thus unknowingly acts and feels the victim role.

To write a script one must choose a new purpose of living.  A new purpose is a role.  It is best to start with a simple role, for instance, my role is that of contributing to a pleasant, harmonious mood.  First step in the script/role would be:  Seeing that trying to be non-disturbed is futile and only leads to conflict, struggle and resistance, the disintegrating factors.

Second step is to determine the action and attitude that contribute to a pleasant, harmonious mood.

The third step is to start the actual practice of contributing to a pleasant, harmonious mood, whether with or others or alone.

Fourth step is to avoid finding fault or feeling guilty when one falls into the old purpose of being non-disturbed, but simply pick up the new role at that point and proceed with the practice.  This practice can be activated at home, at work, in traffic, on the telephone, in person – in fact, under any and all circumstances.

All other scripts follow the same outline.

A STORY:

In 1932 I came out of the womb asking, “What the Bleep is going on?”  However, very shortly conditioning took over. The question became buried in mis-information and mis-conceptions.  It was only when I was sick, tired or upset that the question rose in my consciousness.  Most of the time I kept it hidden because there didn’t seem to be any answer.

I read all the great philosophies.  Listened to the great speakers.  I gave the First Christian Church my best shot.   I made a valiant effort to fit into the ideas and concepts about which the authorities seemed quite certain.  I just couldn’t swallow them, or if I did, they gave me indigestion.  I always ended up saying, “Says who?”

I knew there was an Intelligence, a Planner, Who I could not understand, explain nor define with my finite mind.  To go any farther than that hurled me into fairy-tale land where there was no concrete evidence of reality.  But I knew there had to be a way to live in peace and joy, regardless of what was happening in my life.

In 1979 I as living in Arkansas.  A friend of mine in Whitney, TX, invited me to come for the weekend to hear a speaker at the Chapel of Light.  I had planned to fly my plane to Whitney.  However, on the morning I was to leave, 10 inches of snow had fallen during the night.  Flying was out of the question.  Finally, I told my husband, Neal, that I wanted to drive to Whitney—a good nine-hour trip.  He said, “If you want to go that much, go on.”

Dr. Bob Gibson was the speaker.  I spent the weekend mesmerized by what he said.  He expressed ideas that resonated as the Truth. Now, I didn’t just jump right in and study the Science of Man tapes.  There were several powerful events that had to happen first to put me in a place of willingness to do the Work.

Today, twenty-five years later, I continue to study the Teachings.  I observe the self as patiently and as often as I can.  I remember my purpose the best I know how.  I’m still on the planet, so there is much work yet to be done.

This lifetime has been a challenge, as I’m sure it has for all of us.  It is comforting to know that I didn’t spend all of it chasing rainbows (sometimes called illusions).  For the most part the Teachings allow me to have peace and a valid purpose of living.

The Teachings are priceless.  For all the rest there’s MasterCard.

WE ARE GROWN UP WHEN:

Our houseplants are alive and we can’t smoke any of them.

6:00 AM is when we get up, not when we go to bed.

Sleeping on the couch makes our back hurt.

Dinner and a movie is the whole date instead of the beginning of one.

You hear your favorite song on the elevator.

You watch the Weather Channel

Donna’s Stories

For ten years, precisely at the first of every month, with unwavering certainty, ticked a newsletter from Donna into my mailbox. As a tribute to her, this is a compilation of all the parts of the newsletters she named "A STORY." This was the part written by her, as opposed to the quotes of Dr. Bob Rhondell. It covers twenty years of work (1994 - 2014)

She had her mind made up!
Starting with the oldest first.
A few duplicates have been taken out.
There might be more.
